I Live In A Good Neighborhood

The houses in this neighborhood might be on the shabby side, and it might take a few of us a while to get our lawns mowed, but it is a good neighborhood. We don’t have people being attacked by other people or animals for that matter. We don’t have a high rate of home burglaries in our neighborhood. We rarely if ever see the police on our street, not even to check for illegally parked vehicles and we certainly don’t have anyone stealing cars in our neighborhood. Sure, we’ve had the occasional person who thinks it is funny to egg the car, or break a window on a car, but for the most part, we don’t have any problems here.

This is totally unlike my old neighborhood, where I wouldn’t have had a vehicle that didn’t have a gps vehicle tracking system in case someone decide to boost my wheels! In my old neighborhood there was a sex offender who wasn’t supposed to be near children living in the building next door (which was closer than he was allowed to be to children). I would have drunk people knocking on my door at all hours of the night asking me for money outright, asking me to buy clothes or jewelry from them, or to use my phone. The police were somewhere in the neighborhood at least once a day and frankly, I even had people out bugging me when I walked my dog!

I am so very glad that this neighborhood is better than my old one because frankly, I don’t think I could ever live in that ghetto place again!

Save Money – Eat At Home

If you love to save money, listen up. If you eat out a lot, this post is for you. If you don’t, then you’ve probably already figured this out, so you can find another post to read. ;)

In our family, we get lazy. A lot. It isn’t that I don’t like to cook, because I do. I love to cook – as long as I have a real recipe to use or I can dig around in the kitchen and find something to throw together. But if it’s just hamburger helper, boxed mac & cheese, or hot dogs, I’m so not there.

We are a household of three with a food budget that isn’t particularly big. Usually we eat out until we know we just can’t do so anymore, then we scramble to fill the rest of the month with the cheapest meals possible – hamburger helper, boxed mac & cheese, and hot dogs.

Well, in April, I decided that we were just going to have to buckle down and start eating at home. Not because I don’t enjoy eating out, but frankly, because we need to start saving some money around here in regards to the food budget. So I started checking out my pinned food items on Pinterest and soon found a wealth of recipes that just sounded good. The biggest cost for most of these recipes is the meat! I mean, seriously!

Last month we spent for groceries for the entire month what we usually spend going out to eat for a week and a half. We only eat one meal per day here (our schedule just isn’t conducive to eating more than one meal per day), so we spent about $250 total, if that, for a month’s worth of groceries. So far this month we’ve spent about $170, but we have all the chicken we’ll need for the entire month, all the cheese we’ll need for the entire month, and a few other items that we’ll use over the course of the rest of the month.

We used coupons that Target sent us in the mail (we usually have three or four of the coupons that are useful, so we really hope Target doesn’t stop sending them), we used the coupon that Target printed out for us when we shopped there last time, and next time we’ll use the coupon that Target printed out for us this time.

We have three stores we go to, all three are within two miles of each other, so we really don’t use a lot of gas to get from store to store. I get the sales ads for all three together when I go to shop and I have a list based on our menu for the month. Sometimes we can even get more than one meal out of a single recipe – such as getting what amounted to two meals of taco soup and two meals of beef stroganoff, which also helps with the grocery bill because I can plan for two nights of one meal if needed to reduce the grocery cost.

Have you tried seeing what you save by eating at home?

Because I Promised A Picture

I promised I’d take a picture of my nails if they lasted the night (my nails usually don’t last the night they were painted to be honest) and they did (in fact, they even lasted through today and grocery shopping, woohoo!), so here is a picture of them I took in the car.

Sorry I didn’t take pictures holding the polish bottles, but I was in the car when I took the picture! LOL Pssst – you want to see super cool nail polish and reviews? Check out Jenn’s I ♥ Nail Polish!

Yeah, Right

Why do my online friends think I’m super woman? I mean, seriously? The other day I got a Facebook IM from a friend I used to hang out with in Texas. She said she recently bought a Kia vehicle and that she had discovered it needed some work done on it. This is typical of her, because she will never have a mechanic look at any vehicle she buys, she just buys a car and is done with it.

So anyways, she needs a new oxygen sensor. She can’t figure out where to get one and said that the guy who is fixing her car told her that if she bought the parts on her own, he’d do the labor for free, because he’s a friend and he knows she’s got two kids and not much money. So I told her to an online search for the sensor, because she’d probably come up with what she needs. She came up with the auto7 oxygen sensor, and then asked me if that was the right one. Because, you know, I’m the one who would know. LOL I reminded her that it was the guy fixing her car who would have to tell her if it was the right one. *rolls eyes*

I love my friends, but super woman I am not. There are a lot of things I don’t know about and cars is one of them. Me? Super woman? Yeah, right.

I Painted My Nails

For anyone who doesn’t know me very well, which is probably most of my readers, I don’t paint my nails very often. It isn’t that I don’t like having my nails painted, I just don’t like the process of doing so myself. I love having my nails be painted and pretty, I just really dislike the process of painting my nails myself.

However, I saw some pretty nail polish colors at the Dollar Tree of all places, so I decided to buy some nail polish and paint my nails. I got six new polishes – L.A. Colors Color Craze in Tropical Storm, Sea Siren, Sparkling Diamonds (glitter), Jewel Tone (glitter), and Treasure Island (glitter) & Cutie Girl in Green Apple. I’ll have a review of Tropical Storm, Jewel Tone, and Sparkling Diamonds on Charity Lynn in the next couple of days.

Right now I’m wearing a base coat of Sally Hansen’s strengthening base/top coat, 2 coats of Tropical Storm, 1 coat of Sparkling Diamonds, and a top coat of Sally Hansen’s strengthening base/top coat. I just hope it can stand up to the test, because I’m hard on my painted nails – even when I get them done at the salon and have the good OPI polishes, I still chip the polish in a day or two. *sigh*

If I don’t manage to chip them all to heck before tomorrow, I’ll take a picture of them then and post it. :)
